Published 1 August 2017Spreewald was delightful and I really wish we’d had more time there. It’s definitely somewhere I’ll be going back to. Although with plenty of bug spray and mozzie coils!
We stayed at Spreewald Camping Lübben . When we arrived we thought we had the best spot in the campsite, tucked away in a private spot with our own picnic table and just next to the gate to the main Spreewald area.
Little did we know that it wasn’t quite as good as we oiginally thought. As we started putting up the tent we soon started getting munched by mosquitos. Luckily I had packed some repellant and the next day we went and bought some mossy coils as well as the assault was so furious.
If you stay in this campsite perhaps ask to be a bit away from the stream or bring a net tent like the people with this awesome set up.

Spreewald is an amazing network of streams and rivers that crisscross an area of 105,000 acres.

There’s also restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, plus a park and the Spreelagoon. The Spreelagoon is a natural swimming pool with a beach area connected to the river by a little stream.

As well as at the Spreelagoon there were people swimming in the rivers and even one family floating down the river hanging off an old fashioned lilo.
People were on organised boat trips or in canoes and of course we explored on our stand up paddle boards.
Its an absolutely beautiful area, recognised by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve and I would highly recommend adding it to your bucket list for places to SUP inland.
More information is a vailable at the Spreewald visitor centre .
