We stayed at Galetas campsite which is just across the road from the lake and in an ideal position. There’s campsites all around the lake, we hadn’t booked anywhere and Galetas was the first one we came to with vacancies.

At first glance the site looked stony and rough but we easily found a good spot and we were quite comfortable. You are free to choose your own pitch and we found a nice place some way up the hill which had an excellent view across the lake.

Just outside the site there is a small shop and a restaurant. We didn’t eat at the restaurant at all as we drove the short distance to the local town and bought fresh bread and food for a picnic which we enjoyed by the lake.

Lac De Sainte-Croix is the perfect spot for first time paddle boarders. The water is really calm and easy to access from the shore. You can also paddle up the river which feeds the lake.

The river travels through the Verdon Gorge , France's answer to the Grand Canyon. From the river you get impressive views of the canyon, cliff caves and stunning turquoise water.

We SUP’d up the river but there were many people in kayaks and canoes. Another extremely popular option were Pedalos which you can hire from the lake.  There’s a real party picnicking on the river with people swimming, jumping in, picnicking and drinking. It’s totally family friendly and is a really fun day out.
Another SUP spot for the bucket list for sure.

We didn’t get a chance to do any hiking while we were there as the path we intended to walk was closed but there is supposed to be some great hiking to be done in the area with great views of the gorge.

Let us know if you have done a good walk round here as we’d like to check it out if we are ever back at the Lake.

We camped just outside Amsterdam for one night at Zeeburg Camping. We really liked Zeeburg. There were lots of facilities on site; showers, cooking area, restaurant/bar, a shop, plus bike and boat hire.
